 This
device consists of a moveable platform mounted on a railcar and is used
for removing and replacing a 20 ton degassing nozzle in a steel
mill. The platform has six degrees of freedom, each of which can be
independently controlled by the operator. A computer is used to
transform the operator inputs into electronic signals used to control six
hydraulic actuators. The system is currently in its twelfth year of
operation.
